For an Associate's degree for the Culinary Arts at the Art Institute California-San Diego cost roughly $50,000. This includes our chef's uniforms, our knife kit, books, supplies, as well as the food we create.

Because we are unable to bring our food home, we are wasting our money by throwing it away. It would be more financially responsible to keep what we cook. Also, it would benefit our knowledge and increase our understanding of what we are making. A large part of what we are here to learn as chefs is developing a palette that helps us to discern seasoning, texture, and eye appeal, all of which are greatly limited to classroom time.

By not allowing us to take home what we have prepared is denying us the ability to review our food as part of the learning process. By allowing us to take home our food we are learning the value of portion control and maximizing the yield of everything we use. It also fosters an ecofriendly education by diminishing the amount of waste of sustainable products.

This petition is to allow the culinary students of the Art Institute of California-San Diego to bring home the food that they prepare in the classroom.

This petition would allow students to bring home the food we prepare, which in turn maximizes the value of the education we are paying for and will make us better chefs in a real world environment.
