This last Sunday I was visiting the beautiful city of Byblos and while buying some articles from the old shops I tripped in one of the canals of the souk. I broke my ankle and I had to have a surgery, The pain was and still tremendous. I was scared because I felt my foot loose. I have 3 screws and a plate in my ankle and I had to have a cast. I'm bed bound and I don't want anyone else to get hurt. I had my surgery there in Hopital Notre Dame de Secours in Byblos. The artisan shop owners have been trying to get their voices heard about this problem but the city isn't answering. Lots of people have been hurt by tripping in these canals. The shop owners helped me and called an ambulance and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.
We, the undersigned, call for the city and mayor of Byblos to secure people's health and lives by covering the entire canals of the souk. We know that it is part of our heritage but when it comes to people's safety that is the most important thing.
We ask you to answer our calling and consider public safety as a priority. No more people getting hurt by tripping especially when having fun in a very beautiful city.
