Frazier Park Communities

Head Start is a federal and State run program that provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income or special needs children and their families.

According to Datta (Datta, 1976 & Lee et al.,1990) who summarized 31 studies, the program showed that participating children showed improved IQ scores, are significantly more likely to complete high school, attend college, and possibly have higher earnings in their early twenties. They are less likely to have been booked or charged with a crime.

On January 29th the Community Action Partnership of Kern (CAPK), the organization that oversees the Kern County Head Start programs, announced that on April 25th the local Frazier Park Community Head Start Program would be closing.

The Head Start Program in Frazier Park has an above average to a very high attendance record and an average of 15 people on the waiting list. Despite these facts the CAPK states that they made this decision to close this branch, because of low attendance and little community need.

The Mountain Communities of Frazier Park are in need of the Head Start Program and its continued support.

We, the undersigned, call on the Community Action Partnership of Kern to continue to keep open the Frazier Park Head Start Program.
