Currently, Shirley, NY is isolated from public transportation into New York City. The only trains arriving in the area after morning rush hour which ends at 11:15am are the 4:49pm from Jamaica and 5:09pm from Penn Station. MTA is trying to cut the earliest afternoon service (4:49pm LIRR) and increase the price.
However, the only access into Mastic Shirley during an early hour emergency is an 11:15am or a 5:09pm. This is a safety issue covered by civil rights of each individual to be able to have access into their domicile during an emergency prior to 5:00pm. In fact, an additional line train service into Shirley (sometime around 2:00pm-3:00pm) should be added rather than the omitted service currently on schedule.
The rising cost of the ticket should be able to cover the additional service rather than to cheat the people out of their money to travel into the remote area of Suffolk county (Mastic Shirley).
