Tunisia citizens residing in the USA have to interact with the consular services section of the embassy of Tunisia in Washington, mainly to issue travel documents. Unfortunately, the service offered by the embassy has been deteriorating to an uprecedented level. The main complaints are:
1) The staff does not answer phone calls
2) there is not time limit for operations as simple as renewing a passport. Tunisians needing their passports to travel are often left with the uncertainty of when they will get their passports issued and have often had to cancel their trips.
3) there is no confirmation of receipt of documents and no feedback on whether the documents are complete or not.
To the representatives of Tunisian citizens residing in the USA,
As part of your constituency, we are petitioning you to address the significant shortcomings in the consular services offered to us by the Tunisian embassy in Washington. What is supposed to be a right of all Tunisian citizens, getting a passport issued, is turning into a nightmare here at the embassy of Tunisia in Washington. Very long delays, often causing disruptions in travel plans, staff does not respond to phone calls which leaves citizens in distress on their own, and no feedback on applications for travel documents. The experience of interacting with the embassy has only been frustrating to the majority of us.
We kindly would like to ask you to intervene with the embassy and ministry of foreign affairs to streamline the processes at the consular section and to address the problems that we are facing. We would also like to ask you to keep us informed on the progress with regards to the issues raised in this petition.
