Levels of traffic have doubled between 2010 and 2011 on narrow residential streets to the West of Greenwich Park. At the park exits on Crooms Hill, commercial vehicles ratrunning via Circus St, Gloucester Circus and Burney St would not be able to stop if a child or animal came out of the park unexpectedly.

When traffic doubles, so does the risk of injury and death to pedestrians trying to cross these streets on the way to their greatest amenity.

There is increased ratrunning through west Greenwich, especially Hyde Vale, Point Hill, Gloucester Circus, Circus St, Crooms Hill, Burney St. We call upon the council to take steps to reduce the attractiveness of these residential streets to non-residential traffic, focussing on issues of speed, road layout and accessibility to commercial vehicles.

This needs to be addressed before the Olympic Events in 2012 when traffic levels are likely to increase further. Those most at risk at present are children and other vulnerable residents, and also tourists who don't expect such high levels of traffic in such narrow streets.
