With the increase in traffic using the road networks it is becoming more dangerous for carriage drivers. Many carriage drivers spend between one and 5 hours driving and many spend this time entirely on the road network and do not use bridleways, as there is no provision for the use bridleways by carriage drivers.

The majority of drivers travel along major A roads or B class road which are used as short cuts plus we all have to cross A. Many bridle paths were cart tracks with a minimum width of 3 meters and by changing these to restricted byways this would enable carriage drivers to enjoy their hobby safely.

I fully understand where suitable bridle paths cross private land we need to obtain the landowners permission but many bridle paths do not cross private land.

We urge the government to allow bridle paths where practical to be changed to restricted byways to allow access for carriage drivers.
