After a 4-3 vote by the Orange County School Board, middle schools will start at 7:30 a.m. and get out at about 2 p.m. starting in August. High school schedules will be from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Currently, the schedules are the opposite.
The move will save Orange County schools $6 million by using fewer buses, drivers and gasoline. Even though it is saving money, it is disrupting the lives of thousands of middle and high school students. These times will be a burden to teachers also.
Along with that, sports and other extra-curricular activities will have scheduling problems.
