What is the change that you would like to see? What is the specific goal that will help lead to that change? The change that we would like to see in Mexico is for the media to have unlimited freedom of expression. Reporters in Mexico are limited to what they can and cannot report to the public.
Carmen Aristegui, even though she is one of Mexico’s most popular journalists, was fired from radio station “Noticias MVS.” for exposing that the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, was involved in a conflict of interest involving the buying of a mansion by his wife. It is obvious that the media is heavily influenced by the political government.
The government should not censor journalists who report against the government, because it prohibits freedom of expression and goes against democracy in Mexico.
We want to see the radio station rehire Carmen, but we also want them to give her a promotion for being brave enough to exposing speculations of the president without fear and expressing her freedom of expression that should be unlimited in Mexico.
The goal is for “Noticias MVS” to take action and show the government that they are not afraid of them and that other journalists and reporters can practice their freedom of speech without being penalized.
Enrique Peña Nieto also needs to give Carmen Aristegui a public apology and an explanation to the speculations about the mansion if he claims it to not be true.
