PROBLEM:
The average wildfire season is three and a half months longer than it was a few decades ago. Scientists have linked these conditions to climate change. As a result, we witness:
• Severe heat and drought are fuelling wildfires.
• The number of large fires in the West has tripled, burning twice as many acres.
• Warmer weather is making forests drier and more susceptible to raging fires.
Unless we take corrective action urgently, we can expect far worse wildfires in the years to come.
SOLUTIONS:
• Boost research to facilitate sustainable solutions.
• Implement stronger environmental laws.
• Educate the public on environmental management.
• Enforce stronger regulations to prevent bushfires.
• Implement stronger climate action policies.
