A recent post on a facebook animal page highlighted the plight of pet owners desperately searching for their dog Henry. After some time they discovered that he had been picked up and removed by the council (who takes them to the tip)
Council do not check chips "for safety reasons". This does not allow any closure for the pet owner, or options for them to cremate their much loved family member.
Please join me in requesting Cairns City Council change their policy on dealing with deceased animals, and check for chip/contact owners before disposing of the animal.
Cairns City Council: Please change your policy and check the microchips of deceased pets and contact the owners to allow closure and the option to say goodbye to their family member.
The Cairns City Council: Please check microchips of deceased pets petition to Cairns City Council was written by Deborah Mackenzie and is in the category Animal Welfare at GoPetition.
