Target:
Burswood Peninsula Residents for the City of Perth
Region:
Australia

The recently released draft plan by the WA Local Government did not include Burswood Peninsula residents in the proposed City of Perth boundaries, thus excising the residents from the city, landscape and the Swan River which is the natural habitat of the residents.

As ratepayers generating an estimated $2 million a year to local authorities, its time something is done to right this oversight or departmental error.

The City of Perth, its public transport, and direct access to the City and Swan River are part and parcel to our waking lives. It is essential we keep our properties and our position naturally within the boundaries of the City environment.

The value of your apartments are at future risk if we are disconnected with our neighbouring Crown complex, future Sports Stadium and gateway to the high rise city of Perth.

Our reasons are as follows:

As a community of largely business people in residence at Burswood Peninsula we believe we can make a significant and positive contribution as ratepayers of the new City of Perth now taking shape.

We believe the Swan River and its shores to be an integral part of the greater city of Perth and like South Perth high rise density dwellers have the city as part of our doorstep.

As a community on the Burswood Peninsula we have a strong a commitment to the proposed vision of the new cityscape being undertaken by the Government.

Many residents are Seniors and would not like to see further a deteriation of safety and security of the Burswood Peninsula.

The majority of residents also either work in the city or have close business ties to the city, through its retail and business outlets.

The current boundaries of the Great Eastern Highway, and the railway track will always remain an impenetrable social and geographical barrier to the Town of Victoria Park thus to remain in the Town of Victoria electoral boundaries will have a negative social impact on property prices and future wellbeing.

We support the Government’s initiatives for the Burswood Peninsula and see substantial benefit in the Gateway Project.

It is logical that the Railway line or Victoria Park Drive cutting through the Burswood Peninsula be the boundary for the city of Perth.

In a city that is growing at a rapid rate it is seems logical that our Swan River and the areas on its foreshore (i.e. the Burswood Peninsula) form part of the vibrant capital City of Western Australia.

Our estates structured Hi-rise design and closeness to the CBD is not your typical urban fringe subdivision, instead, it lends itself to inner city living, and an extension of the city precinct, as referred to by the WAPC.

With Crown as our nearest neighbour we share the same infrastructure (roads, park, gardens and lakes) and in the interests of commonality it makes sense that one common council confer on infrastructural issues.

As the Crown complex is our nearest neighbour, it is essential our estate be part of the same local government, so that we can strengthen our relationship with our neighbours and so that we can confer through one common council on issues such as parking and traffic management that from time to time may affect our lifestyle.

Many residents on the estate consider our small residential enclave to be part of the gateway to the city, and the soon to be constructed pedestrian access-way only strengthens our link to the City of Perth.

It is logical to assume in the future there will be water taxis and possibly more pedestrian access-ways connecting the vibrant Burswood Peninsula with the City of Perth.
