Bring Backyard Chickens to the Village of Ilion!

We are collecting signatures in Ilion to change the town codes so we can all enjoy the benefits of having backyard chickens!

Chickens aren't just livestock. They make amazing pets/companions but also provide safe, affordable and sustainable nutrition! There has been a massive resurgence in homesteading, now is the perfect time to bring it back into our community and educate the next generation. Plus everyone has seen the egg prices soaring over the last several years...
Common myths and misunderstandings about chickens:
Myth: They smell and are dirty!
Fact: Chickens clean themselves meticulously, and when provided proper care and ventilation no odors will be noticed.
Myth: They are noisy!
Fact: Hens are not typically noisy. Here are some comparisons measured at 3'.
Hens ~60 dB (and only during the day)
Dog Barking ~70-100 dB
Lawnmower ~90 dB
Vacuum ~80 dB
Myth: They need a ton of land!
Fact: They only need a few square feet per bird. Many major cities even allow people to keep chickens. Including Seattle, Denver, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles (and many more).

Pest removal. Chickens eat a large variety of weeds and disease carrying insects.
