P&O Ferries conducted a survey in 2012 to generate ideas to improve the on board facilities for their Irish Sea crossings.

In response to requests for more family friendly facilities on board P&O took the strange decision to remove the only play facilities on board their Troon ferry and replace them with an arcade for teenagers.

This has left no play area or facilities on board for younger children during the 2 hour crossing.

Due to the design and layout of the boat this has created a health and safety issue for under fives and their parents, and also annoyance for passengers not travelling with young children as they are now subjected to small children being walked up and down in the seating areas.

The nearest port with a child friendly ferry crossing between Ireland and Scotland is 55 miles away, meaning parents now face over an hour of extra car travelling time to reach a suitable boat.

We, the undersigned, call on P&O Ferries to reinstate safe and suitable play facilities for young children on board their Troon ferry service as a matter of priority.

We also request that P&O refrain from advertising that the Troon boat is 'more family friendly than ever before' unil this issue has been rectified.
