This year, Winnisquam Regional Middle School switched from letter and percentage grades to "Competencies." Most students (and parents) have strong hatred for this new system because, to put it simply, it is confusing. Most parents who grew up with letter grade do not and will not understand this system because it is so much more complex and different than it needs to be. Also, I've heard teachers claim that the new grading system is supposed to "better the student body's education." I know for a fact that this claim is false. The only way to better an education is to teach better, and try to adapt to each individual person's needs, not change the grading system. Finally, like Principal Seaward said, the letter grade system has been around for a hundred years. So if the system isn't broken (which it isn't), then there is no need to replace it, especially if the replacement is much worse for everyone. Please take this into consideration. Thank you.
We, the students and parents of the entire State of New Hampshire who sign this, demand for the Winnisquam Regional School District, and all of to abolish the Competency grading system and bring back the letter and percentage grades.
