AFL matchs between teams representing States/Colonies/Territories have been played as early as 1879. The last match was played in 1999 between SA & Victoria, when the concept was stopped.

During the 1980's State Of Origin matches were great specticals. In 1989, 91,960 people attended a State Of Origin match between SA & Victoria at the MCG. It is the highest possible honour for a player to represent their home state.

Over 90% of players in the AFL today want the concept back & the public are hungry to see some real footy played again.

In 2008 the AFL introduced a 'one off' match between Victoria and The Dream Team (a team consisting of players from the remaining states) to celebrate 150 years of football. The match ended up being nothing but a hollow encounter between the Vics and a team that couldn't play with passion because they were wearing a jumper that symbolised nothing.

Vote for AFL State Of Origin to be brought back in a regular fixture, where SA, WA, QLD & NSW can participate along with Victoria.

The Bring Back AFL State Of Origin petition to AFL was written by Anonymous and is in the category Football at GoPetition.
