Many Rye Neck families from all over the village pass through Florence Park on their way to F.E. Bellows School, However, the current marked bike route & crosswalk involves many extra street crossings which increase the risk for accidents. Neither Frank Ave or Lorena St have sidewalks, and both streets experience heavy traffic during dropoff and pickup, Drivers unfamiliar with these streets may speed through unaware that children are biking or walking in the road.
We propose that the Village designate a safe bicycling and pedestrian route between Florence Park & F.E. Bellows School. This could be a traffic barrel or sign, or marked on the street.
This improvement would not only increase the safety of our families, but would encourage more parents to allow children to walk to school, reducing the amount of traffic on Village Streets during rush hour.
