#Internet
Target:
Mid Ulster District Council
Region:
United Kingdom

Our lives are more connected every day. In the home, more and more gadgets and appliances – phones, TVs, tablets, games consoles – work best with a good internet connection. Small villages and rural enclaves of towns across Northern Ireland are being left out of the faster fibre optic broadband roll out. In many of these cases, the broadband is painfully slow, erratic or even non existent.

The residents of these places are very often reliant on internet, some being housebound, particularly in bad weather. BT has stated that in our area a cabinet has been enabled for Superfast fibre however we are not able to order fibre just yet. This might be because the length of the line is too long to get Superfast speeds.

Within these areas the lines are so long that everyone else before rural areas uses up the bandwidth and speed. Such areas should be entitled to the same service as everywhere else. Often, only a few miles from the rural area fibre optic is available.

Why should consumers pay expensive broadband costs for a service that is inadequate. This has to be a government priority,

We, the undersigned, call for immediate action to bring better connectivity through super fast fibre optic technology, to rural areas across Northern UK.
