Beanshields Road is the quickest, safest route for parents and children living in upper Braidwood (on the Lanark Road (A73) and Nellfield Gardens and Loanfoot Gardens) to walk to and from Braidwood Primary School via Beanshields Road and Loch Avenue.

It is a much safer and quicker route than the alternative (the busy A73 Lanark Road and Braidwood Road/Brae). The road is in a bad state of repair, especially after Wimpey failed to fulfill their verbal promise to repair any damage they did to it during the construction of the developments at Nellfield Gardens and Loanfoot Gardens. This leaves mothers and toddlers struggling along it, especially after rain and in winter, along with pensioners and teenagers from Braidwood Road/Brae and the rest of lower Braidwood going to the Spar at Nellfield Garage (the closest groceries shop in the village since the closure of the Post Office) or Carluke Post Office, or to and from the bus stop on the Lanark Road going to and from school.

Further proposed developments on the Lanark Road (e.g at Headspoint Nursery) may soon mean even more parents and children will rely on Beanshields Road as their route to and from school.

We, the undersigned, request South Lanarkshire Council to repair and agree to adopt (i.e maintain in the future) Beanshields Road in order to maintain a safe, quick route for parents and children to and from Braidwood Primary School, as they have done with Bentley Lane in Carluke.
