Woodbridge Residents Request The Establishment of a Dog Park At the Fitzgerald Property

The Woodbridge Dog Park Cooperative is a volunteer group of residents working with the Town to create a dog park with funding from grants and donations. Our mission has town support. The Woodbridge Board of Selectmen and the Commission on the Use of Publicly Owned Properties voted unanimously to approve the establishment of a community dog park. The next crucial step is ensuring the ideal location to provide a safe, well-maintained and easily accessible natural dog park in the center of Town with ample space for exercise, play and socializing for dogs and their owners.
While Woodbridge enjoys hundreds of acres of open land, few available sites meet the requirements for a dog park. Thus, we, the undersigned, request that the dog park be sited within the Fitzgerald Property, either in the chestnut orchard or one of the fields, because the area is already the primary destination for dog walkers and those wishing to socialize with fellow residents; it has the appropriate infrastructure and meets the safety standards for a dog park and for the humans wishing to enjoy it. The orchard has already received Town Planning and Zoning approval for a dog park.
We ask the Board of Selectmen to renegotiate one of two land use agreements in the Fitzgerald Tract in order to allocate land for a dog park: the Land Trust's lease of the chestnut orchard or the lease of one of the hayfields.
