The Confederate Flag is the flag of the Confederacy during the American Civil War. The Confederacy was based on the idea that slavery should continue to stay legal, and ultimately lost the war. Those who support the Confederate Flag argue that it's an important piece of history, and I agree However, it's become a controversial topic in recent times. it has been used to symbolize racism and hate groups. A study done by the Public Religion Research Institute shows that 41% of Americans see the flag as a symbol of racism, while 51 say it's a symbol of "Southern Pride". Unsurprisingly, all of the support comes from white Americans. If it's an important part of American History, then it should only be displayed in historic sites of the Civil War and Civil War museums. Therefore, I ask that it be illegal outside of said sites due to the racist nature of the flag.

We, the undersigned, call on the U.S. government to make it illegal to publicly display the Confederate Flag outside of Civil War historic sites and Civil War museums. Any display of the flag will be taken down and the person displaying the flag will be fined $100.
