Sign the petition to make King's University College a plastic water bottle free campus! With numerous water fountains across the campus, it only makes sense for the King's community to stop the sale of plastic water bottles and instead use reusable water bottles!

Facts:
-Bottles used to package water take over 1,000 years to bio-degrade and if incinerated, they produce toxic fumes.

-It takes close to 17 million barrels of oil to produce the 30 billion water bottles that U.S. citizens go through every year.

-Canadians consume more than two billion litres of bottled water a year, and globally, we consume about 190 billion litres a year. Unfortunately, most of those bottles — more than 85 per cent, in fact — get tossed into the trash rather than the recycling bin.

Environmental and Human impacts of plastic bottles:
-Plastic bottles contain Bisphenol A (BPA), the chemical used to make the plastic hard and clear. BPA is an endocrine disruptor which has been proven to be hazardous to human health.

-Plastic bottle tops are NOT recyclable, and as with plastic bags they often end up at the bottom of the ocean, and in the stomachs of a variety of animal species that mistake them for food.

-Plastic bottles are made from a petroleum product known as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and they require huge amounts of fossil fuels to both make and transport them

"Water is a precious resource that belongs to all of us. Let's not take it for granted. And let's not put it in plastic" - David Suzuki

We, the undersigned, call on Aramark at King's University College to eliminate the sale of plastic bottles on campus.
