In August 2009, the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) added the use of tanning beds/sunlamps (Solariums) to their list of “Group 1 Carcinogens” or agents/mixtures that are directly involved in the promotion of cancer in humans.

Other Group 1 Carcinogens include exposure to tobacco smoke and mustard gases. Studies indicate that the use of tanning beds before the age of 35 increases the risk of skin cancer by 75%.

According to the American Dermatology Association, it is estimated that there will be over 120,000 new cases of melanoma diagnosed in the United States in 2009 — and this number is on the rise. Australia has the world's highest number of melanoma per capita! More and more young men & women are being diagnosed with melanoma every day. Many have visited tanning beds/solariums.

Please support a ban on the sale of indoor UV Tanning/Solarium exposure to minors. Let's put an end to another industry profitting at the expense of the health of our minors!
