Plastic not only litters our beaches and makes for a lot of clean up, it also harms our environment and wildlife. Plastic bags contain materials that are toxic to the environment and take a long period of time to biodegrade.
Plastic bags can also entangle or choke fish, turtles, birds, and other animals that mistake plastic for food. Their lack of re-usability creates excessive waste of valuable materials such as natural gas and petroleum.
By banning single-use disposable plastic bags from being distributed by businesses, Mississippi can promote the reduction of plastic waste, endorsing environmental conservation, not only helping our wildlife, but helping our beaches stay beautiful!
We, the undersigned, call on the Govenor of Mississippi to help eliminate the use of plastic bags.
