The Health Professions Council of South Africa has indicated their desire to replace the existing short-course format paramedic courses with the B-tech and ECT paramedic programs.

The HPCSA are not however consulting adequately with existing paramedics, and many medics can not afford the high costs of tertiary level education.

Our appeal is for the HPCSA to re-instate short courses and allow for the recognition of the short course format within the national qualifications framework, and empower paramedics that cannot afford university education to become fully qualified advanced life support paramedics using the short course formats.

We, the undersigned, call on the HPCSA to bring back the short course format paramedic courses.

To review these courses so as to align them with the national qualifications framework, and recognise these courses nationally and internationally as envisioned by the South African Qualifications Authority.
