Target:
Major media outlets
Region:
United States of America

Every time a mass shooting happens in this country, we have the same arguments, the same discussions, and nothing is ever done. We debate the 2nd Amendment, we talk about mental health, we talk about prescription drugs, and nothing ever changes. We get distracted by the next news story, until it happens again, and the same conversations happen all over again.
I think there are a lot of reasons why these shootings happen, but I think the foremost reason is that certain disturbed individuals are angry at the extent to which they've become alienated from society.
I'm no psychologist, but I think that, when the news media broadcasts the face and name of a mass shooter, effectively making them famous, they are inadvertently sending a message to other would-be shooters that we will all finally notice them if they do the same thing.
Maybe, if the media outlets all agreed to stop showing the faces of these shooters, it wouldn't encourage others to so perversely pursue their desire to be noticed by a society that ignores them.
So this petition is designed for those of us who want SOMEONE to do SOMETHING to help make these shootings stop, by asking all media outlets to voluntarily stop publishing the faces of these people, in the hope that it may reduce the chances of others wanting to pursue the same sick path.
As a regular person, uninvolved in shaping government policy, I thought that maybe this could be one small thing we can all get behind, to help solve this problem. Sign and share if you agree. Thanks.

WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, HEREBY ASK NBC, FOX NEWS, MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, AND ALL MAJOR NEWS OUTLETS, TO PLEASE STOP PUBLISHING AND BROADCASTING THE FACES OF MASS SHOOTERS. STOP MAKING THESE PEOPLE FAMOUS FOR THEIR HORRIBLE CRIMES!!
