Approve Mariana Bracetti Academy's New Charter Application

Recent legislation has passed that allows the submission of new Charter School Applications to the School Reform Commission (SRC). Mariana Bracetti Academy Charter School (MBA) will submit an application for an additional charter school that will continue to serve children from the 19134 and surrounding North Philadelphia zip codes.

The new charter school, to be named the Sustainable Roots Academy Charter School, will serve grades K-12 with an emphasis on Sustainability and Social Change – issues that affect us and future generations. The school will be located in the Kensington Community.

Since opening in 2000, MBA has improved the educational experience for students in Philadelphia. In 2013, MBA students showed remarkable growth on the PSSA. Among 1,365 schools in Pennsylvania, MBA ranked 2nd for growth in PSSA mathematics and 5th for growth in PSSA reading. Among 220 schools in the City of Philadelphia, MBA ranked 1st for growth in PSSA mathematics and 3rd for growth in PSSA reading.

Families that live in underserved communities only want the best for their children and they have so few options.
