George Hitchcock was an amazing man.

Who in the city of Brampton wasn't touched by his big heart, amazing outlook on life or his incredible sense of humour? It is impossible to count the number of total strangers that were positively impacted by even the briefest of encounters with George.

"Fireman George" as he was known by the kids and seniors of the community, made every effort to ensure that they were safe, and even more importantly, made them each feel special in their own right.

George and his wife Marina gave most of their waking hours to the community for forty years. This included involvement with the city and it's members at all levels, fundraising, safety clinics, local baseball, hockey and bowling, Special Olympics and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel.

It is only fitting that this community's best friend be memorialized on the very steps that he loved and was proud to call his place of work.

It is our petition that the Fire/Life Safety Education Centre be renamed "The George Hitchcock Fire/Life Safety Centre".

We, the undersigned, call on the City of Brampton to rename the Fire/Life Safety Education Centre, located at 225 Central Park Drive, to "The George Hitchcock Fire/Life Safety Education Centre", as a thank you to George for being passionate about the safety of our city and it's residents.
