People living in the East Tennessee area have only the choice of private transportation, air or bus to the Northeast. Bus travel in the US has deteriorated and is only used as a last resort.
The interstate highway is filled with trucks and many people do not like to fly. We need a passenger rail service conectecting to the North East.
We, citizens of the Knoxville metropolitan area, petition Amtrak to begin passenger service from Knoxville to the North East.
Passenger service from New Orleans, Birmingham, Atlanta, Chattanooga, Knoxville, Tri-Cities and on to Washington, DC should be a profitable route and could be done over existing freight rails.
