• Not all dormitories have AC or cooling units
(The dorms that do have AC still experience temperature issues)
• Rooms reach extremely high temperatures
• Rooming fees are very high for there not to be a decent living temperature
• MSMU Students wake up sweating, unable to sleep comfortably
• MSMU provides some rooms with a single fan that doesn’t do much but move around hot air
• MSMU Students have to go out of their way to purchase extra fans or cooling systems to help stay cool in their hot rooms
• MSMU Students have to sleep in student lounges or computer labs to get comfortable sleep because the few lounges and computer labs have AC
• MSMU Students feel sick and weak because of how hot they get
• MSMU Students cannot focus primarily on school work because their physical and health needs are not being met
• Students are forced to leave campus in search of decent room temperature
-Local MSMU students go home
-Out of state or nonlocal MSMU students are forced to endure the heat
The high temperatures in the dorms here have been an ongoing concern for years and there has been what seems to be no attempt to create a solution as soon as possible for students and faculty who live here on the Chalon Campus.
Justice too long delayed is justice denied.
We deserve to live at the very least comfortably and not in these abusive temperatures.
We, the undersigned, call for Mount Saint Mary's University to provide us, its students and residents with a plan on how they will get sufficient air conditioning or cooling systems for its dormitories at the Chalon campus by mid-semester break of the 2017 Fall semester. We call that this plan be followed and executed by the beginning of the 2018 Spring semester. We want sufficient air-conditioning or cooling units in each room by Spring of 2018.
