Hampshire County Council has plans to install a zebra crossing in Stoney Lane, Weeke, this summer, necessitating the removal of 3 parking spaces in order to create this. Whilst a zebra crossing would undoubtedly be useful, the loss of 3 much needed parking space will have a greater impact on the area and the retailers around it.

Many people currently use these spaces in front of the shops for collecting prescriptions, to drop off clothes at the Wessex Cancer shop, to take a parcel into the post office, etc. The existing parking arrangements work well; it is convenient, free, close to businesses and waiting time for a space is minimal. It is also used by people of all ages: Mums, older people collecting prescriptions, people on their way home from work, builders quickly buying a paper.......

It appears none of the businesses have received details of this proposal and none of them are happy about the loss of 3 parking spaces. The traffic cannot move fast down Stoney Lane because there are already measures in place to slow it. In this time of cash-strapped councils, is a zebra crossing even a really necessary expense?

Please sign this petition if you are against the removal of 3 parking spaces.
Thank you

We, the undersigned, are against the loss of 3 parking spaces in Stoney Lane for the purposes of creating a zebra crossing. This is one of the few areas in our city where you can park outside a shop, dash in, and not have to pay to park. The current system works acceptably well.

We request that Hampshire County Council does not remove any parking spaces in Stoney Lane, Winchester
