Additional Teacher Parking for PS 32 The Belmont School

PS 32, The Belmont School is in desperate need of teacher parking. In recent years, we have lost 3 "teacher parking" streets to "No Parking Anytime Between 7am-4pm) The streets that we were once allowed to park on were Grote, Beaumount, and 183rd Street. We only have fifteen passes for assigned parking on Cambreleng Avenue, and the parking spots on the left side are assigned to PS 32. However, staff from the school across the street park on our side so we our losing our only assigned parking spots.

At the school, we have over 120 teachers who commute into the Bronx to educate students in a low socioeconomic neighborhood. We have very limited parking, This problem does not only include faculty, staff, and other administrative personal, but our students who miss academic activities. Students lose instruction time because of adults looking for parking, or moving their cars because of alternate side of the street parking (which is in effect everyday except Wednesdays from 8:00am- 10:00am.)

We are already 7 months into the school year and the problems has continued to become more and more difficult. School begins at 8:00 am. Teachers/staff are consistently late to class, despite arriving to the school over an hour early to look for a parking spot. This cuts into valuable learning time. I along with numerous teachers call 311 to help us while we drive around looking for parking 5-6 blocks away from school. Something must be done. Daily, we are risking being ticketed, booted, or towed (as well as being marked tardy/absent to class.) We are a dedicated staff who is trying to get to work early and on time and cannot park. This is unacceptable and it must be fixed in a timely manner.
