All motorists in the Metro suffer from TPSD - Traffic Police Shortage Disorder! The lack of proper planning, bridges, traffic circles and unsynchronized traffic lights result in chaotic and frustrating journeys to work and home every single day. Not a day goes by that I don't hear emergency vehicles rushing to attend to (the inevitable) accidents that result - and one can only imagine the total cost of this untenable situation.
It is high time that the ratepayers start to get SOMETHING for their hard-earned money in the form of Traffic Officers who are trained and appointed to direct traffic in the (half-dozen or so) major bottlenecks in the city traffic.
I am not the only one who feels that our Traffic Police are failing in their sworn mandate - they are not policing the traffic and as such are not making our roads safer! All of South Africa is aware of our horiffic road death-toll statistics and yet those most qualified and equipped to deal with this problem are (apparently) doing nothing about it.
We call upon all Metro motorists to join hands in this endeavor. Together we can make our city, our Metro and even our country a better, safer place.
We, the undersigned, demand that the Head of the NMB Traffic Department train and instruct relevant officers in their duties to provide point-duty services during peak-hour traffic in designated bottleneck areas.
We believe that this is a necessary, critical service to the NMB residents, which will go a long way towards relieving frustration, reducing traffic accidents and improving the general wellbeing of motorists.
