Between 1956 and 2006, Canada’s population almost doubled from 16 million to 31.6 million people at least doubling consumption. I live in Winnipeg Manitoba, where many people simply litter on the ground and the vast majority of city garbage cans have no recycling options. Think of all the times you walk by with a plastic water bottle in your hand and need to get rid of it, so you are forced to throw it in a garbage can.

Approximately 67.2% of Canada’s GARBAGE is disposed of in a Landfill.

Canada has over 10,000 landfill sites.

Canadians generate approximately 31 million tonnes of garbage a year and only recycle about 30 per cent of that mate. This means that each person generates approximately 2.7 kg of garbage each day. The sheer volume of waste means that many existing landfill sites are approaching capacity, and few people want new sites built near their communities.

A littered aluminum can takes 500 years to disintegrate. Plastic and glass take 1 million years to break down naturally.

This world is going to be covered in trash ruined for our children because we're lazy and selfish. This would be such a small step in the right direction, so easy to implement, and would probably generate more tax dollars for participants than not doing it in the sheer amount of money we'd save and tax incentives.

We, the undersigned, call on the Canadian government to make it mandatory to have a recycling drop off container next to every municiple, city, provincial, and federal garbage can in the country.
