It has come to our attention that the company “2nd Season Recycling” is interested in expanding their existing compost facility which is currently located on the west side of Hwy Q between Balzer Road and Hwy K (just north of Northlake).

This expansion, if approved, would include the addition of pre-consumer food waste (initially vegetable waste, and possibly dairy waste in the future) as well as construction waste. 2nd Season is currently in the process of applying for a conditional use permit from the City of Middleton.

We have received a great deal of information regarding this project from several different sources. This information has raised serious concerns and questions. Until these questions are answered and our concerns addressed we cannot support the proposed expansion of the 2nd Season compost facility. Therefore, we, as a board, are standing in opposition until further notice.

We, the undersigned, request that the Middleton City Council DENY the application for a Conditional Use Permit by 2nd Season Recycling, which would allow
their company to expand the current MRD Composting Site (located at 5211 County Hwy Q in Middleton, WI) into a facility that would accept food waste and/or
construction waste.

We stand in opposition because this project’s effects can reasonably be expected to be incompatible with and detrimental to the existing and the planned residential and retail spaces, open spaces and neighborhood centers surrounding and abutting the project area, as well as Middleton’s planned long
term growth over the next 20 years, and the general health and welfare of our community.

We hereby request that this petition be made part of the record.
