Recently, the Benzie Central Public Schools have designated public school bus stops for their students. Some towns have already had to begin this new action.
This puts our young students in danger. They will have to walk distances from blocks to miles to catch a public school bus.
Recently, a Kindergardner in an already enforced location, was dropped off at the public bus stop with several other students. There were no parents present and the driver was not required to stay until a parent arrived. The driver drove away, leaving the child unattended.
Not only is this dangerous any time of the year, but particularly in the winter months. With the low temperatures and hazardous driving conditions, this is putting our children, in a possible, fatal situation.
We the undersigned call on the Benzie County Central School Board and Superintendent to stop the new school transportation policy that requires our children to walk to a single bus stop.
We also request that the previous transportation arrangements, which was much safer for our children, continue
