Due to the increasing problems of our service members' mental health issues being ignored and or misdiagnosed by military personnel, we need to set a new standard in how our servicemembers are evaluated. We need to forbid military personnel to make mental assessments of service members as they may be biased and not give the correct diagnoses and or improper care to our service members.
The DOD has shown that servicemembers do not count by the countless servicemembers who are misdiagnosed and drummed out so they cannot recieve medical benefits based on their mental health issues. This has been common practice by our military and it needs to change now!This will keep the service members from being misdiagnosed, under diagnosed and their mental health concerns being taken seriously and treated fairly and keep the biases of the military treating military out.
We the undersigned, call on the US Government to make it mandatory for any service member presenting with a mental health issue to be evaluated by a non military licensed psychiatrist to be paid for by the benefits of the military such as TriCare and all recommendations by this private licensed psychiatrist to be deemed just as important as a military doctor.
Also, the servicemembers need to have privacy when dealing with mental health issues, therefore while the licensed psychiatrists can make mental health evaluations, diagnosis, they should not have to give entire records to servicemembers direct commands, by doing so it will harm the servicemembers careers by commands that may retailiate. If the command questions such diagnosis a second opinion can be gotten but again, by a license psychiatrist that is chosen by the servicemember.
