This petition is to fix the issue with West Fairview Street's new sidewalk ramping for driveway's and alley access.
Many vehicles are "bottoming out" on the new sidewalk ramping in their own driveways and the alley access ramping. It also makes a hazard for pedestrians walking on the sidewalks. People have already been almost falling over or rolling ankles because of the unleveled condition and the steep drop-off.
It also is an issue with the mobile impaired. It is too narrow and too dangerous for a wheelchair to use the sidewalk in these areas because they could lose control and possibly tip over. I was told by the City Engineer and A/K construction workers that this was a new idea for handicapped personnel to have better access and passage on the sidewalk. This is a bad design and can see it being a "nightmare" for those people.
We, the undersigned, request that the sidewalk ramping structures on new sidewalks be revised into the original design that the rest of the city sidewalks have.
