Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, signed by Iran, states:

"Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers. "

Following the announcement of the winner of the 10th Presidential Election in Iran as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, tens of thousands of Iranians, young and old, have taken to the streets to protest against what they believe to be a rigged election.

In response to the mass protests and rallies, the Iranian Government blocked access to social networking sites such as Facebook, cut communications via mobile phones and the riot police and army have physically responded, brutally beating anyone in their way. As of the 16th June, 7 people were reported dead and a further 28 seriously injured, with this number set to rise as more protests continue. Furthermore, over 170 people have been arrested during the rallies.

This oppression and violence against the people of Iran is a gross violation of human rights and should not be tolerated.

Please sign this petition to show your support for the Iranian people, and condemn the Iranian Government for its actions and response to the protests.

"We, the undersigned, call on the International Community to support the people of Iran in their desire for freedom, and condemn the actions of the Iranian Government."
