www.SaveShannon.com is asking people who will be effected by the closure of direct flights from Shannon to Heathrow with Aer Lingus to make and post personal videos on YouTube to highlight the negative effect the route closure will have on jobs, businesses and tourism in Shannon and the West of Ireland.

A new Shannon Support website www.SaveShannon.com has launched an online petition calling for Aer Lingus to stop its plans to remove direct flights from Shannon to Heathrow. (petition at: http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/save-shannon-to-heathrow-flights.html)

The petition, posted on the www.GoPetition.com website, states ”Aer Lingus, the national airline of Ireland, has decided to stop its direct flights from Heathrow in London to Shannon Airport in the West of Ireland.

The loss of these direct flights will have a huge and detrimental impact on the economy of Shannon and the West of Ireland. These flights are essential to jobs, businesses and economic well being of the tourist industry in Shannon and surrounding areas.”

The petition calls on the people of Ireland to support the people of Shannon and the West of Ireland in calling on Aer Lingus to stop its plans to remove direct flights from Heathrow to Shannon.

The man behind the website, Robbert J. Lynch, said “We are asking people to sign and publicise this petition. The more pressure that can be put on politicians, the Government and Aer Lingus itself, the more chance of having this decision reversed.”

The website is also calling for people to make and post videos on YouTube in support of the effort to keep flights in Shannon. Lynch said  “If people have something that you would like to say about the closure of the Shannon to Heathrow route, if they would like to speak directly to the people who have made this decision or if they would simply like to let the world know how this is going to affect you, your family, your job or your business... then YouTube offers everybody this chance” he continued “putting a face and a name to individual story makes a difference, and this issue is going to affect a lot of individual people who have their own story.”
