Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) patron, Margaret Best, has successfully campaigned for the DVD release of the 2008 production of Hamlet with David Tennant. In November 2008 she commenced a campaign at GoPetition, to the Artistic Director of the RSC, Michael Boyd.

"We the undersigned would like to respectfully request that the RSC seriously consider the possibility of producing a DVD of the current 2008 production of Hamlet with David Tennant."

"We strongly feel that this would be of great benefit, not only to the RSC as a valuable source of funding for future projects, but also an important educational tool for students of English around the world. Also, due to the popularity of this production, many people who would have liked to have seen it were unable to have that pleasure."

"A DVD would enable them to enjoy the experience that a privileged few were able to partake in. We hope the expressions of interest below will be instrumental in assisting in the decision to go ahead with this project."

In May, Ms Best reported the following result on the GoPetition website:

"As the author of the Hamlet DVD Petition, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all those who took the time to leave their signature and for all the heartfelt comments as well. I am extremely pleased to be able to report that the petition has been a resounding success. The BBC have announced that filming will commence at the start of June and the result will be broadcast later this year in the UK and in the US and Japan in early 2010. The Royal Shakespeare Company has confirmed also that a DVD release will follow the UK broadcast."

GoPetition congratulates Ms Best on her successful campaign. We also wish to thank her for her comments to GoPetition: "I found this site to be very user friendly... and the staff to be very quick at responding to any queries I had. I would be happy to recommend this site to anyway needing to use a petition."
