As smokers we often get the bad end of the deal! Shifted to the side, isolated, told where to go! This is in the interest of other peoples health and very understandable. At uws there are only a few smoking areas.
Smoking areas are strategically positioned often far away from many university facilities and hence passive smoke has a minimal impact IF ANY on fellow students. Uws has made student and staff aware that from january 2014 each uws campus will be smoke free. if students or staff are caught smoking, fines exceed $500.
Smoking cigarettes is a personal decision! Its not up to a university to tell us we have to quit! We feel that we still deserve a place at uni and because we smoke should not be a reason to evict us from campus!
Smoking cigarettes is not illegal! And to be fined for doing something that is not illegal is wrong!
Considering the price we pay so much to be there this is the smallest ask. Leave us a place!
