Keep Sonny Bill Williams out of the All Black Squad

As a New Zealander, I was bought up to take pride in what I did, show loyalty to those who supported me, and stick with a side through thick and thin. I was taught that commitment and dedication were values to be cherished in myself and others, and that personal attributes like these were more important than any trophy or prize. As a New Zealander, I hold the character within a person in far higher esteem than any natural talent. I believe these values are common throughout New Zealand, and I believe they should be maintained.

Maintaining the values that make us who we are must be done across the board. All role models should aspire to - and be held accountable to - that which we want our children to replicate. It is the responsibility of every public figure to behave in a way that reflects this.

Sonny Bill Williams has not done this. Throughout his career he has changed sides in pursuit of trophies and personal glory, but has never shown any loyalty to his code, his team, or his team mates. He has selfishly chased championships at the expense of those who have helped him get there. These are not acts I want my children to look up to. Sonny Bill Williams does not represent the values I stand for or the face of the nation I want to present to the world. He does not represent me in life, and I dont want him to represent me on the rugby field.

Omit Sonny Bill Williams from any national rugby squad until such time as he has demonstrated dedication to his sport and team, and is no longer pursuing personal glory.
