On June 2, 2015 the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) Board of Directors voted 5-4 with 2 members absent to establish a separate Bear Tag at additional cost to hunters.

This was after the VDGIF had invited the hunting public to comment on this new regulation and public comment was 271 in favor and 445 opposed.

This vote also came after years of similar unsuccessful pushes for this regulation from The Virginia Bear Hunters Association (VBHA).

We, the undersigned, call on the VDGIF Board of Directors to as soon as practical, rescind the regulation that produced the "new separate Bear Tag" and return the Bear Tag to the Virginia Big Game License as has been the practice for years.

We further ask that the VDGIF Board of Directors eliminate any fee's associated with the new tag and if the VDGIF needs additional funding, that it go through the usual process as in Virginia Code.
