2. Stop The Decrease in Military Educational Benefits for Vets

New Post 9/11 GI Bill taking effect lowers our annual cap to $17,500. When previously capped at over $20,000 annually for vets receiving 100% of GI Bill benefits.

The previous cap was enough to attend a majority of U.S. educational institutions with no out of pocket expenses for example flight costs for pilot bound degree seeking students.

Pilot expenses are usually charged $300-$450/hr. Our previous cap at over $20,000 annually with Yellow Ribbon Program benefits covered all tuitional costs, whereas our new cap at $17,500 causes us to pay out of pocket expenses.

The amendment to 38 U.S.C. 1724 has been sitting with the Veterans Health Administration since early 2008 and has not advanced beyond the Department of Veterans Affairs.

We disabled veterans, many being senior in age, need this medical care that would be allowed by this amendment.

4. Building A Skate Park In Lorton, VA

There are many Skateboarders, Inline Skaters, and Bicycle Motor Crossers in the Lorton Area that have been waiting for a new skate park to be built in order for them to have something to be able to skate and bike safely.

Without a skate park, there aren’t many things that skaters/bikers are permitted to skate/bike around this area so they resort to skating/biking private prohibited areas (others houses, schools, local businesses, etc). Skateboarding, Inline Skating, and Bicycle Motor Crossing in these prohibited areas can have a lot of consequences because there are private areas that other people own, and have rules against doing these activities. These consequences can include legal authority, and restrictions to that certain area.

To many Skateboarders, Inline Skaters, and Bicycle Motor Crossers this is not only a hobby, it is their choice of life style they live. Some people neglect the idea that this kind of activity could even be considered a sport. There are many places for other people that are interested in “real sports” to go to around this area to practice that sport. Skateboarders, Inline Skaters, and Bicycle Motor Crossers have nothing in walking range distance, and the closest skate park is Wakefield Recreational Center, which is about 13.5 miles (20 minutes) away.

This means that kids that want something to skate/bike safely after their work at school each day wouldn’t have something close for them, while the other kids that do these “real sports” actually do. Is this fair? The Skateboarders, Inline Skaters, and Bicycle Motor Crossers only ask for you to consider the idea of building a safe environment for children to skate/bike without getting in trouble. This benefits not only the Skateboarders, Inline Skaters, and Bicycle Motor Crossers, but also the people that hate the Skateboarders, Inline Skaters, and Bicycle Motor Crossers. Parents and Peers can go to work, without worrying if their child was in trouble this time.

All we ask is that you take part of your day, and consider a new skate park idea in the Lorton area. You will see how many children will really love this idea, and be safe from harm.

5. Save Barrett Elementary Programs

Arlington Public Schools (APS) are facing severe budget cuts, and its exemplary projects are at risk of elimination. K.W. Barrett Elementary School is fortunate to have two Exemplary Projects: Project Interaction and Project Discovery.

Project Interaction includes a Family Involvement component that seeks to integrate student’s families in the educational process, particularly immigrant families who do not speak English in the home. It also includes a Communication Arts/TV Studio component that permeates throughout the school in many different ways. The results of this very successful program are that Barrett is a cohesive community with families from all backgrounds who volunteer frequently and are involved in the school and surrounding community.

Project Discovery is at the heart of our science curriculum and makes Barrett the “other” science-focused school in Arlington. The Discovery Lab is a vibrant physical space where students go to learn about a myriad of topics through videoconferences, hands-on engineering projects, and visits from experts. The Project Discovery teachers are award-winning and incredibly dedicated – they know how to make science education fun and engaging for elementary students.

8. National Paid Holiday for All Veterans

Today The united states government does not provide a holiday for the living veteran of any wars, we do have memorial day but that is a day to honor all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, Their life.

So what about the veteran that survived the conflicts and come home to nothing. I believe that it is about time that the us government gives the nation a day to support all veterans of the united states and make veterans day a national holiday.
