Did you know -

To become a Plastic surgeon, you need to have, not only completed a medical degree, but an additional 8-10 years in post-graduate surgical training. Two to five of these years are spent in general surgical training and a further four years in specialty plastic and cosmetic surgery training.

This in-depth and lengthy training in Plastic surgery culminates in a qualification called the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS).

It is important to know that only qualified Plastic Surgeons can then become a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS).

Becoming a cosmetic surgeon -

In order to call yourself a cosmetic surgeon, all you need to do is to have a basic medical degree. There are no legal requirements for doctors to train in surgery and call themselves a’ surgeon’, and there are many untrained doctors performing breast operations, and liposuction.

The general public have the right to be treated by only the most qualified of Plastic Surgeons. Regulation needs to happen NOW!

We the undersigned call for regulation in Cosmetic Surgery.

This needs to happen. We need to take action.
