Governor Wolf's proposed budget cuts will have a catastrophic result for all charter public school students. Schools will be forced to cut the programs and supports children need to succeed.
Gov. Wolf Is proposing to reduce special education funding for students in Philadelphia charter schools by 62 percent. That’s a cut of more than $10,000 per pupil.
The effect would be to establish a system where students with special needs would receive far different resources depending on which type of public school they attend.
Students in public charter schools come from the same neighborhoods as other students. Their families pay the same taxes. They deserve to receive the same educational opportunities as other students. Gov. Wolf doesn’t think so.
His proposal is discriminatory. Philadelphia families and legislators must not let it happen.
Do not cut the special education funding for charter school students. Cutting funding by 62%, or $10,000 per student, in one year is reckless and will have a catastrophic result for all charter public school students.
We demand equitable funding and education resources for the 143,000 charter public school students in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
