Derrick Burnett GDC # 1090412, was wrongly convicted of Armed Robbery and sentenced to 20 years in prison. He has served 8 of those 20 years.

There was no evidence to link Derrick to the crime. Except for the testimony of one witness, the interesting thing is that the one witness who testified against Derrick was the one who planned and took part in the very crime that derrick was on trial for. The fact is that this person actually took his name out of the story and put derrick's name in. He was never charged, convicted or sentenced.

There was a taped confession from on of the participants that was supposed to mention Derricks name. The fact is that the tape was inaudible, Nothing on the tape could be understood in the courtroom much less Derricks name. The jurors were given transcripts of what was supposed to be on the tape.

To make matters worse Derrick was Denied his right to appeal because his Lawyer quit after the trial because Derrick's parent could not pay him an extra five thousand dollars. He quit without advising his client that he had the right to be appointed an attorney for his appeal.

Justice was not served in this case. Our Justice system failed. An innocent man went to prison and a guilty one did not. True justice will not be served until Derrick is released and allowed to return home to his family.

Derrick Burnett has spent his entire adult life in prison for a crime that he did not commit.

Justice can never be served until he is released.

We, the undersigned, call on Garland R. Hunt, Chairman Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles to grant a full pardon to Derrick Gabriel Burnett GDC # 1090412.
