The "limit" of finite natural resources per capita as population increases without bounds is zero. Simply put, the more there are of us, the less there is for each of us. How much farther down that road should we go? It is estimated that without action the U.S. population will balloon to 458 million by mid-century and more than 600 million by the end of this century with no end in sight.

Americans produce 20 metric tons of pollutants per capita annually. At that rate, if we add 300 million more people by the end of this century, we will be producing another 6 billion tons of pollutants every year. Even if by some technological miracle we are able to reduce our per capita output by half to that of Mexico, we will have made no progress on reducing the present unacceptable total level of output as our population doubles.

Thirsty cities are buying up water rights to serve the needs of their burgeoning populations leaving the land needed to grow the food needed to feed those additional people unproductive for lack of water.

Population growth in America is almost soley the result of legal immigrants, illegal aliens, their higher fertility rates, and their progeny. The fertility rate of American women is about 2.1, very close to the replacement level.

We need tax and immigration policies that will stabilize our population. Cap and trade can be applied to family size as well as pollution. If a woman wishes to have more than two children, she must purchase credits from those who wish to have fewer. Legal immigration must be reduced to the historical level of the 1970s, about 250,000 per year in all categories including chain immigrations.

We, the undersigned, call on the U.S. Congress to establish a national objective of a stable population with a soft landing for our economy to be achieved within 20 years.
