According to my mother, the dress code is being put in place to prepare us for being adults. The "real world".

But...

We're kids. we spend 1/3 of our lifetime being a (legal) child. DRESSING how we want is a large part of that. Our social status is /can/ be highly affected by what we wear ( which is where I see they'd want everyone to be the same ), and you can tell alot about a person by what they wear. What can you tell about someone who looks exactly like everyone else? NOTHING.

Besides, what about elementary children? Is our youth so mentally handicapped and swayed by tabloid/celebrity propaganda that we're immediately written off as unable to prepare ourselves for the "real world"? Generations before us did just fine, didn't they? Just because our youth of today is lazier, fatter, etc, doesn't mean we're stupid. We don't need a dress code to prepare us for anything. The dress code before was fine, just not enforced. Teachers are there to TEACH, not to be fashion police. Take kids who don't follow the dress code, and the kids that are the reason FOR the dress code changes and put them SOMEWHERE ELSE.

We're constantly being told something along these lines;
"Tell your peers to dress appropriately! Encourage them do be in dress code!"
That kinda stuff.
You get the idea.
But what makes you THINK they'll listen to us anymore than they'll listen to YOU?
Just because we're they're age doesn't mean they'll listen to us.
And it's a very ignorant assumption. I mean, you watch the news, don't you? You SEE the types of things that our PEERS do to each other.
We have no more control over our classmates than you do, so STOP PUNISHING the REST OF US.
I have another point.
What about the entire, "Look good, feel good" philosophy?
That, for the most part, is an entirely true statement.

The better we FEEL we look, the more likely we'll be able to concentrate. We'll feel better about ourselves. It improves self-esteem and whatnot as well. You don't need expensive clothing to feel good about yourself ( for the kids who cannot afford expensive clothing ). So, what's going to happen when kids are FORCED to wear something they HATE everyday? I bet it'll lower self-esteem, and I don't care WHAT people say, it's not going to stop bullying. People will STILL PICK ON EACH OTHER. It happens in the "real world" among people's jobs and on the streets. It even happens in the animal world, though to more extremes.

GANGS WILL FIND WAYS TO MAKE THEMSELVES DISTINGUISHED. NO MATTER WHAT. TAKING AWAY HOODIES AND RESTRICTING OUR COLOR CHOICE WILL NOT DO ANYTHING.

Take something away, it's likely it will be fought for.
We may be minors, but we're not incapable of sentient thought.
It's not even proven that school uniforms stop violence.

In my opinion, kids would probably do alot better in school were they not FORCED to go. I mean, come on.. People HATE being told what to do. Like the Republican that wanted ever girl going into 6th grade ( or something ) to get a shot for cervical cancer to PROTECT THEM. Parents threw a huge fit about this, didn't they? Even it would PROTECT THEIR CHILD, they didn't like being told that their daughter HAD to have one. But they also put some kid of ridiculous justification behind it.
"It's giving them the "OK" to have sex!!"
which wasn't what it was for AT ALL.
But, in their defense, it's a good thing it didn't become mandatory because some girls have had serious reactions to it... -BESIDE the point-

But another thing that peeves me is that.
There is ONE MAJOR difference between going to SCHOOL and having a JOB.
And that is:
You MAKE THE CHOICE to be at one.
We don't have a choice. We are required, by law, to go to school.

MEANING by CHOOSING to be at a certain JOB you are also CHOOSING to ACCEPT whatever BAGGAGE the job make COME WITH. The same with private schools and uniforms. You CHOOSE to be there ( or your parents choose for you. It's still a choice. ).

They don't give us the CHOICE because they think
"Oh, they're KIDS they don't know how to take care of themselves they can't make the correct choice."
HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT?
Part of life is MAKING THE WRONG CHOICE
and LEARNING FROM
HOW ARE WE GOING TO "LEARN" IF YOU DON'T LET US SCREW UP IN THE FIRST PLACE?

Isn't LEARNING your JOB to help us DO?

The last time I check, we lived in America.
You know, the place everybody hates BECAUSE of our valued individualism?

So... what are you trying to prove?

People who are DIFFERENT get places in the world, right?

If the school wants us to go out and do great things SO BADLY, then why are they trying to make us all the SAME?
